NUT Ughelli North Chapter Elects New Exco’s, As Blessing Egbagba Emerges Chairman

The Ughelli North Local Government Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT, has elected new executive on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 to pilot the affairs of the Union with Comrade Egbagbara Blessing JP, emerging as the chairman of the Union in Ughelli North chapter. 


The keenly contested election had the winner defeating his two opponents with 214 votes.

 The election which was held at the NUT secretariat in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta had three candidates vying for the position including Comrade’s Blessing Egbagbara, Richard Erhrhore and Godspower Odjede.


At the end of the exercise, Comrade Blessing Egbagbara who was the former secretary of the Union in Ughelli pulled a total vote of 214 against Comrade Erhurhore Richard who scored 173 votes and Comrade Odjede Godspower who pulled 132 votes.

Addressing newsmen after the election, Comrade Egabagbara Blessing who was so overwhelmed with the result of the election, assured teachers in Ughelli North of quality representation.

According to him, “The era of deducting teachers salaries at will without their consent and same not accountable is over.” “As the elected chairman of the Union in Ughrlli North LGA, my executive and i will work assiduously to put an end to such illegal and unwarranted deductions”.

“Ughelli North chapter of the NUT has over 2,400 teachers and as the chairman anything that would affect their deduction will be made known to them and i will ensure i seek their consent before such deduction and any spending would be made public to avoid accusations.

Comrade Egbagbara further disclosed that his regime will run an open door policy and that his government will be accessible by all NUT members in Ughelli and I shall be very prudent in running the affairs of the Union.

“I was the Secretary of the Union for over 8-years and during that period we were able to erect an edifce today known as the ‘Teachers House’ in Ughelli. He maintained that now that he is the chairman of the union, greater benefits will come to serving and even the retired teachers in the local government.

Comrade Egbagba admitted that in every contest there must be a winner and therefore called on all his aggrieved  opponents to join hand with him to take the NUT in Ughelli North Local Government to a greater height.


Meanwhile, Comrade Egbagba has appealed to the state government and the delta state commissioner of police to ensure safety of teachers is guaranteed. Reacting to the recent kidnapped of a Secondary school teacher in Ughelli, Comrade Egbagba noted that teachers contribute a lot to the society, hence they should be encouraged. 
He however commended the efforts of the security agencies in Ughelli and all other sister agencies for their prompt response and subsequent rescue of the teacher who was released two days after.
