Delta Lawmaker Promises Upgrade Of Health Centre In Idumuogo

NGOs Gives Free Medical Care To Indigene

The member representing Aniocha North Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi has pledged to Fast-track the upgrade of the primary health centre in Idumuogo, especially in ensuring that more personnel are deployed to the community to enable them benefit better medical services.

He made this promise on Saturday 27th March, 2021, when he visited the community to flag off the two-day free medical outreach organised for the people by OMIWA Foundation in conjunction with Anioma Medical Professionals Forum.

Nwaobi who was eulogized for his quality leadership and adequate representation at the Parliament, equally was confronted with a request by the community to help in ensuring that their only health centre functions according to how a primary health care facility should function.

Speaking as instructed by the traditional ruler of Idumuogo, HRM Obi Samuel Otiegede 11, the Ozoma of Idumuogo itemized most importantly, the need for Government to give the community a visiting doctor, a resident nurse and of course proper upgrade of the facility.

However, Hon. Nwaobi appreciated the community immensely for supporting the medical exercise for their own good.

He assured to do what they had asked, but advised them to first do a letter to the Honourable Commissioner for Health detailing their demands. He said a copy of that letter should be made available to his office to enable him fast-track the community’s demand until Government responds to them.

The lawmaker thanked Obi Otiegede and the community people for showing interest in the free medical exercise, praying that those who were sick would have their health improved at the end of their treatments.

While declaring the exercise open, Hon. Nwaobi commended the Anioma Medical Professionals Forum for their sustained voluntary medical contributions towards the health needs of the people of Anioma and beyond.

He also thanked the OMIWA Foundation for initiating the idea of medical charity to Idumuogo community people, maintaining that this is the best form of humanitarian service.

Speaking to newsmen, the Founder and President of Anioma Medical Professionals Forum, Dr. Alexander Awunor appreciated Hon. Nwaobi for always being there for the group.

He equally appreciated the OMIWA Foundation for finding AMPF worthy for partnership, while also in a special way appreciating the amiable Consultant Paediatrician, Dr. Etumudor Stella for making it to the medical exercise.

Dr. Awunor however, advised the community people to take advantage of the opportunity as provided through the medical outreach to address their health needs, stating that it has cost the group and its sponsors fortune to procure medicines, eye glasses and other items needed for consulting, testing and carrying out treatments and in some cases minor surgeries.

On his part, the facilitator and member of OMIWA Foundation, Mr. Tohan Okenyi explained that OMIWA in Olukunmi dialect means water and since water represents life, they had decided to come up with a humanitarian service that tends to save lives.

He said the idea of OMIWA Foundation was born out of the Covid-19 pandemic where they distributed palliatives to the people of Ukwu-Nzu in Aniocha North and the extension of that gesture is the medical outreach in Idumuogo.

Okenyi while commending the CEO of OMIWA Foundation, Dr. Samuel Okenyi in absentia, assured that the medical outreach would be replicated in most communities of Anioma as the spirit leads.

He equally advised the patients needing medical attention in Idumuogo and environs to utilize the opportunity of the medical exercise to get treated free in any form of ailment, positing that the Foundation and its partners were fully equipped to address the health challenges of the people of the community within the two days exercise.

The highpoint of the opening ceremony of the medical outreach was checking the Honourable Member and other dignitaries present, while drugs were prescribed as necessary.
